Educational Assistance: Keeping Bright Boys in School
Financial hardship is the single biggest reason bright boys in informal settlements drop out of school. NISSI directly addresses this by providing scholarships, school fees support, and essential learning materials — removing the financial barrier so boys can focus entirely on their education.
Beyond fees, we work with schools to monitor attendance, academic progress, and well-being, ensuring each supported boy receives the sustained attention he needs to succeed.
- School fees and tuition support
- Learning materials and stationery
- School uniform assistance
- Academic monitoring and progress tracking
Mentorship Program
Every boy in our program is paired with a dedicated mentor who provides consistent guidance, emotional support, and practical life skills. Our mentors understand the realities of informal settlement life — and are equipped to help boys navigate challenges without losing sight of their potential.
Mentorship goes beyond school. We address grief, family instability, peer pressure, and identity — the invisible barriers that keep boys from reaching their full potential.
- One-on-one mentoring relationships
- Life skills training and workshops
- Emotional support and counselling referrals
- Career guidance and goal setting
Dignity Kits: Attending School with Confidence
A boy who cannot afford basic hygiene and personal care items often avoids school out of shame and embarrassment. NISSI’s dignity kits remove this barrier by providing the essentials every boy needs to show up – and feel confident when he does.
This program affirms a simple truth: every boy deserves to attend school with dignity, regardless of his family’s economic circumstances.
- Personal hygiene and care items
- Sanitation supplies
- Items that support confident school attendance
Referral Services
A boy’s success is deeply linked to the stability of his home. NISSI’s referral services connect boys and their families to the government child protection system, healthcare providers, and partner organisations — ensuring they receive the comprehensive care they need.
We act as a bridge between vulnerable families and the broader network of services and support systems available to them.
- Government child protection referrals
- Health and psychosocial support linkages
- Caregiver empowerment programs
- Community and NGO network connections
